Birthday Celebrations & Class Parties

Birthday Party Hat

Birthday Celebrations!

Continuing your past experience at Hillcrest, we will not be including edible treats as part of a celebration for your child's birthday this year. Our birthday celebrations will include a rockin' class birthday song sung to the birthday honoree as well as a few surprises.   If you would also like to send in a non-edible party favor, such as a pencil, bookmark, eraser, etc., please feel free to do so.  I'm confident that all children will enjoy having the spotlight as we sing to and celebrate them in a special way!

Please refer to the official PARTIES-BIRTHDAYS policy from the District Elementary Parent Handbook:

To support a healthy lifestyle for all our students and accommodate students’ medical and food allergy needs, Hillcrest will ONLY celebrate birthdays in non-food ways. Another option is to commemorate your child’s birthday with the purchase of a Celebration Book, a program coordinated through our PTO. The program offers the opportunity to purchase a book in your child’s honor for our library collection. Finally, in the interest of the instructional time and the reasons stated above, we do not allow the distribution of birthday treats with students in other homerooms or staff members other than the child’s own teacher(s). Celebrations will take place during snack time.  To ensure maximum instructional time, parents are discouraged from attending.  Non-food birthday treats will be accepted in the Main Office and the teacher will be notified upon arrival. Birthday celebrations will last no longer than 15 minutes (snack time). We thank you, in advance, for your compliance with this policy.  Please note:  any food birthday treats sent in with students for distribution will be sent back home.  We need to ensure that we are consistent with this policy and therefore exceptions will not be considered.

Birthday Invitation Policy

Please refer to the official official PARTY INVITATIONS policy from the District Elementary Parent Handbook:

Many hurt feelings have been encountered when students issue party invitations to children at school. For a child, not receiving an invitation is a learning experience; however, teasing by the other children often hurts the uninvited. To prevent this unfortunate circumstance, please issue invitations outside of the school setting.

Mrs. Lenicky Suggestion:
Please refer to the PTO Directory if you are choosing not to invite all of the children in the class.

Summer Birthday Celebrations!

If you would like to send in non-edible birthday treats for your child's summer birthday before school ends, please send in a note or email me <alenicky@crsd.org> with a few dates that would work for you and I will confirm a date.  You may do it anytime of year that is convenient.  Don't feel you have to wait until June.

Classroom Parties

Please refer to the official CLASSROOM PARTIES policies from the District Elementary Parent Handbook:

PARTIES-CLASSROOM

There will be three class parties held each year: Halloween, December, and Valentine's Day. PTO homeroom parents will provide information and logistics regarding these three events. Please contact your homeroom parents or child’s homeroom teacher with questions regarding an upcoming classroom party. Most often, our office staff personnel are unable to answer questions regarding logistics for these events.

SNACKS FOR DISTRICT APPROVED CLASSROOM PARTIES

For these reasons, and to accommodate the increasing number of students’ medical and food allergy needs, we are promoting a change regarding the three district approved elementary classroom parties.  We are requesting that no more than one sugary/low nutrition food item be offered at classroom parties and that all foods are pre-package containing nutritional information/ingredients and are nut-free.  Exposing students to healthier treats is a great step toward developing healthier habits.  The focus of classroom parties should continue to be on the social, celebratory aspect of the event rather than the food.
