Restorative Practices
Restorative approaches include two major components: 1. Intervention when harm occurs. This process can occur as a whole class or as a smaller group. Students use these four questions to help guide the process. (What happened? Who has been affected? How can we find a way to move forward? How can everyone do things differently in the future?) These questions assist students in developing skills in active listening, problem-solving, listening to and expressing emotion and empowering others to take ownership of problems. 2. Prevention of harm and conflict. The main form of prevention is the use of circle time. Students sit in a circle and participate in activities to help build a sense of belonging, safety and social responsibility. |
