Fall Sign-up for Instrumental Music 2023-2024

Music Department - September 2023

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Council Rock Music Department offers woodwind, brass, string, and percussion instrument instruction for students in grades 4, 5, and 6. Instrumental students receive a small group lesson once a week during the school day. The lessons rotate throughout the school day so that the same period/class is not missed each week. Students interested in a wind instrument (flute, clarinet, alto saxophone) or brass instrument (trumpet, baritone, French horn, trombone) should select the instrument they want to play. If you are interested in the snare drum, it will be by audition-based selection only. Auditions take place on the day of the assembly.

An instrument rental service is provided through Music and Arts (https://www.musicarts.com/). Music and Arts services all Council Rock Schools to ensure our students have quality instruments and exceptional service.

Here’s why renting may be the best option:

  • High Quality: The rental program offers high-quality instruments carefully chosen and maintained by professionals. In contrast, cheap instruments found online may lack the craftsmanship and durability required for optimal playing experience for young musicians.
  • Value for Money: While purchasing a cheap instrument online may seem cost-effective initially, it often proves to be a poor investment in the long run. Renting a quality instrument ensures reliable performance and eliminates additional maintenance costs, including accidental warranty coverage.
  • Accidental Warranty Coverage: The rental program provides low-cost/high-value accidental warranty coverage, providing peace of mind. With the rental program, you won’t have to worry about bearing the financial burden of accidental damage.
  • Flexibility: Renting an instrument offers flexibility, allowing you to try different types of instruments before making a long-term commitment. This is particularly beneficial for beginners who are still exploring their musical preferences and may want to switch instruments in the future.
  • Rental support: Besides the instrument, the rental program often includes additional benefits such as customer support. Should you encounter any issues or require assistance with your rented instrument, Music and Arts representatives visit the schools twice per week and are here to help you.

However, if you are still considering purchasing an instrument, we strongly advise comparing your prospective purchase to the quality and value of the instruments offered through our rental program. Ensure that the instrument you plan to buy meets the necessary standards in terms of craftsmanship, durability, sound quality, and warranty coverage. By making an informed decision, you can avoid the pitfalls associated with buying a cheap instrument online and enjoy a more rewarding musical experience.

If interested in playing an instrument for the first time (beginner), please complete the attached Lesson Registration Form and return it to the instrumental music teacher at school by Friday, September 22, 2023.

Thank you,
